Arranger fees for existing charts

Typically $50 – $100 per song. Specific arranger’s fee depends upon whether the song is original, how much may have been written by Clay, whether or not it’s public domain, which ensemble would perform the arrangement, etc. Fill out the order form and Becki will be in touch quickly to give you details about a specific song for a specific group.

Clay’s copyrighted arrangements

Arrangements of songs that are public domain or where Clay composed the song are copyrighted by Clay. These DON’T require additional clearance (yay!), and typically have a per copy fee (typically 50 cents USD per copy) that can be paid directly through this site.

Guidelines for Other Copyrighted Material

Most of Clay’s charts involve a publisher who owns the copyright for that specific song (or songs). For these songs to be legally performed by your group, you’ll need to obtain arrangement clearance from the publisher. Details regarding this process for different publishers is included below.

Hal Leonard

If you are willing to get the arrangement cleared for your group, the process would be for you to contact the publisher, Hal Leonard Corporation, ask for permission to arrange, follow up if necessary, and pay them the clearance fee and the per copy fees. The fee has been this in the past: fee of $50.00 and 5 free copies; $1.00 per copy above 5 in quantity. Update as of August 2018….Hal Leonard is using Tresona Music to clear some of their song titles, so you may be redirected there. In some cases, the fee has been $180.

You would visit www.halleonard.com, click on “Copyright” on the top in the blue section, Look under “Permission to arrange” and click on “barbershop ensemble,” you will need to register an account, if you don’t have one, or just sign in to your account. You can follow the prompts from there. The group that the arrangement was originally done for is ___. If you need this information, here it is:
